Sr. PROJECT ENGINEER – CONTROL SYSTEMS
Position Description:
The Sr. Project Engineer – Control Systems: Provides specialized technical support to various plants and project teams on control systems capital projects up to $15M. This position provides specialized technical leadership to promote control systems standardization, use of best practices, and adequate selection of control system technologies for monitoring, automation and process controls.
Duties include:
- Act as a lead technical interface on projects; works with plant operations and plant control system engineers to define and implement control systems requirements.
- Work with Engineering service providers, consultants, and suppliers as the lead technical interface between those organizations and plant operations and plant control system engineers.
- Review work products, deliverables, and vendor data produced by Engineering Services providers, consultants and suppliers for compliance with established control systems technical criteria and requirements.
- Develop control system standards and review its application on projects.
- Design, review, approve and implement regulatory and discrete control system strategies on DCS and PLC systems.
- Design, review, approve and implement DCS / PLC Human Machine Interfaces.
- Plan upgrades or modifications to existing control system installations and interfaces to Information Systems.
- Design and implement control system installations that include: TCP/IP and Control Networks, DCS / PLC System and Instrumentation.
- Specify and select control system and instrumentation equipment.
- Provide technical review and support for control system troubleshooting, implementation and installation of new systems in the plants.
- Reviews and comments on system designs, drawings and specifications.
- Manage multiple projects in control systems throughout the company.
- Provide leadership and interfacing with the project sponsor and stakeholders at various plants.
- Responsibilities include working with project sponsors and stakeholders to develop: (1) system requirements, (2) detailed scopes of work, (3) cost estimates, (4) execution plans, (5) bid documents, and (6) risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies.
- Report periodically on project progress, issues, costs, and earned value.
- Develop and implements cutover, commissioning and start-up plans.
- Select and oversee engineering and field contractors to complete the sponsored project.
- Completes a final report card of contractor performance.
Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in Electrical or other relevant related technical field is preferred.
- 5 + years of project engineering experience in a heavy industrial setting.
- 3 + years of experience providing support on construction, commissioning and start-up.
- Ability to engineer and support TCP/IP, Ethernet and Control Networks.
- Ability to understand control drawings including: schematics, loop diagrams, ladder logic diagrams.
- Ability to configure DCS and PLC Systems. (PROVOX, DELTA V, Control Logix Systems are preferred)
- Ability to configure and support Process Control Historians. (PI from OSI Software is preferred)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and MS Project.
PROJECT MANAGER - DCS MIGRATION
Position Description:
The Project Manager - DCS Migration will work as an owner’s representative. The Project Manager - DCS Migration will manage a moderately sized project, approximately $3M. This EPCM project scope includes the migration of an obsolescent Provox DCS to a new DeltaV installation involving controller, I/O, HMI and PLC interface upgrades. Duties include:
- Provide industrial automation consulting and interfacing with the project sponsors.
- Coordinate with other related projects through an engineering services group.
- Provide leadership and facilitate an integrated project team environment with project stakeholders, plant technical resources, consultants and contractors.
- Work with project team to develop detailed scopes of work, including costs, preparing bid documents, establishing job execution plans, and communicating project schedules, milestones, and progress to all relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with, mentor and coach the project team and others to define, plan and execute the project.
- Select and oversee engineering and field contractors to complete the project.
- Ensure the project is managed with high attention to safety and in accordance with health, safety and environmental standards.
- Manage the project with high attention to quality to ensure design for reliability, operability, and maintainability key performance indicators are met.
- Resolve design problems that may arise by using sound engineering principles and by consulting with engineering resources and plant personnel.
- Responsible and accountable to plan, execute, monitor, control and close-out the project efficiently, ensuring all deliverables and reporting is managed to a high degree of customer satisfaction.
Qualifications:
- B.S. Degree in Electrical or other relevant related technical field is preferred.
- 8 + years of project management experience in a heavy industrial setting.
- Basic knowledge of project management principles with underlying objective of obtaining PMP certification. A current PMI credential is a plus.
- Automation engineering skills related to DCS, PLC, HMI, Instrumentation and Control System Networks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience with computer system applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access and MS Project.
